Just as I had herded all the Canton Akron cats into my frame, along came Mrs. Dole to throw some light on the image. She has taken over for Senator Dole and her presence is as large as his. She is ever gracious and has a empathy with people that is stunning to experience. We [...]

My carefully planned photograph of the 200 person Canton Akron Honor Flight went off without a hitch. I was adding and subtracting people to make them fit into the frame of my “not wide enough” lens! Worked like a charm! The Smuckers Corporation sponsored two Honor Flights so far. And I’m going to be drinking [...]

Mary Haddon of Rocky Mountain Honor Flight was at the WWII Memorial with about thirty veterans and their guardians. The weather was DC at its best and promised to continue for the weekend which is supposed to be jam-packed with flights. The veteran on the left was celebrating his 93rd birthday. You can see more [...]

The Cherry Blossom Festival has been extended this year to accommodate a record 2 million visitors. I’ll be down at the Cherry Blossom Festival Welcome area signing WWII MEMORIAL: Jewel of the Mall and DC PHOTO BOOK: An Insider’s View for the National Park Service. Eastern National, an educational affiliate of the Park Service will have a tent [...]

PREVIEW! Due to arrive mid June 2012. The WWII Memorial book will be 28 pages thicker with a gloss 140 lb stock on the cover. Sculptor Ray Kaskey’s use of the “lost wax” process is examined in more detail and a new section called a “A Living MemoriaL” documents the day-to-day activities that make this [...]

Sculptor Ray Kaskey who sculpted the the WWII Memorial elements just completed assignments for the “International Brotherhood of Teamsters” and the “International Union of Operating Engineers.” I added twelve pages to the site and updated the “Commissions” page. I designed the site two years ago in Dreamweaver and still think it’s an elegant piece of code.
We had some bad weather forecast today in DC and while it was gray, the rains held off while Arizona, New Mexico and Chicago Honor Flights were at the Memorial. Jim McLoughlin and Susan Barr are in town for a few days supervising the variety of flights that are arriving. Honor Flight is a phenomena…and [...]

Senators Robert and Elizabeth Dole and General Colin Powell greet 750 WWII Veterans who visited the WWII Memorial this last Saturday. I took a few pictures but more importantly, I directed bus traffic! The pictures are available for free download to veterans and their families.

Senators Robert and Elizabeth Dole invited 100 members of “Wounded Warriors”from Walter Reed Hospital to Senator Robert Dole’s 88th birthday party this July 22nd. The Doles have been regularly taking wounded soldiers and their families out for a “night on the town.” For Senator Dole’s 88th Birthday, they invited them to their Washington home. The Doles [...]

Honor Flight Chicago visited the WWII Memorial in the blistering heat. Wisely staying on the buses when possible, they managed to put together a moving ceremony at the WWII Memorial. Working with Honor Flight Chicago’s 800 volunteer army, this print will be waiting for the veterans when they arrive at the airport this evening. Every [...]

I got a schedule of Honor Flights yesterday from Glenn Anderson who is running the welcoming committee at BWI airport. His devotion and the devotion of his volunteers is absolutely amazing. This week, there were ten flights coming in and out of BWI almost everyday of the week as Honor Flight organizers deal with charter [...]
On Saturday, May 1, 2010 there were eight flights arriving and what an arrival they had. I know Judi Wybenga and crew had a crowd at the airports and the Iowa veterans were met by former students of Iowa University and friends. It was an amazing crowd as the buses were stacked along Homeland Drive [...]

A salute to my father Edward Brown on this Veterans Day. Like many WWII Veterans, he never made a fuss about his military service either before the war on a Destroyers at Pearl Harbor or during the war in Brazil where he was on the crew of a PBY (submarine hunter). He used to [...]
