Jane Howitt began working with me a couple of months ago and studio productivity has skyrocketed. She oversaw the revision of the WWII Memorial book through its final stages and is now deep into the revision of the DC PHOTO BOOK. She is also working on a series of posters which we soon hope to [...]

The Cherry Blossom Festival has been extended this year to accommodate a record 2 million visitors. I’ll be down at the Cherry Blossom Festival Welcome area signing WWII MEMORIAL: Jewel of the Mall and DC PHOTO BOOK: An Insider’s View for the National Park Service. Eastern National, an educational affiliate of the Park Service will have a tent [...]

PREVIEW! Due to arrive mid June 2012. The WWII Memorial book will be 28 pages thicker with a gloss 140 lb stock on the cover. Sculptor Ray Kaskey’s use of the “lost wax” process is examined in more detail and a new section called a “A Living MemoriaL” documents the day-to-day activities that make this [...]

Sculptor Ray Kaskey who sculpted the the WWII Memorial elements just completed assignments for the “International Brotherhood of Teamsters” and the “International Union of Operating Engineers.” I added twelve pages to the site and updated the “Commissions” page. I designed the site two years ago in Dreamweaver and still think it’s an elegant piece of code.

Les Foster and I finished hanging thirty five images at the Annapolis Maritime Museum and will let the others revolve through the two months the show is up. TALK: ”Photographing the Chesapeake” January 26, 2012 7:8:30 p.m. RECEPTION: January 27, 2012 5:30-7:30 p.m

Barcelona was a visual feast and there was no imaging restraint possible! I have just finished doing a preliminary edit using Lightroom. While I haven’t had much experience with LR, i found it satisfying to take these gritty green fluorescent night shots and turn them into relatively interesting color or lack of. The choice of [...]

My sunday riverfront odyssey turned into a triple header. The Georgetown Waterfront has been enhanced on the East with the House of Sweden’s clean, green and hip design and our new park on the West.

I must have fifty discreet “views” of the Lincoln but it seems there is always another.

Scouting an architectural project along the Potomac, I realized I have only been on the River once before in my three decades in DC! I jumped on the Riverfront Cruse which was just arriving and it turned out to be the last ride of the season! As I got on, I recognized Captain Bob [...]

This was the scene from the helm this weekend as we took advantage of the light winds to finish up the season. I’ve been dropping off cases of ”Tidewater” at the various marinas we visit on our explorations of the Chesapeake.

Upriver from the House of Sweden. If you are familiar with my publications, you know that I am always in search of unique and grand views of DC. It’s the most beautiful of the great cities and I’ve found you can while away 35 plus years photographing it. If you are not familiar with DC PHOTO [...]

This image was taken about a month ago. As I was wondering along the Tidal Basin on the way to the WWII Memorial, MLK was exposed! It looks to be a beautiful memorial and I am looking forward to photographing it more thoroughly when it opens this August 28th.

L’Escargot, now the nicest Bristol 32 on the Chesapeake Bay, is in the water and going fast (for a Bristol 32). I’d like to thank everyone who coordinated their efforts to get the boat through the yard: Buster Phipps for his innovative hatches and woodwork, Osprey Marine Composites for a smooth bottom and structural [...]

I’ve been driving down to the Eastern Shore to get books out to Museums and bookstores and took some time out to visit with the Cutts brothers who were just finishing up the rigging one of their classic boats. And in the pool at Mears Marina found Margaret L. Anderson Rosenfeld whose autographed book “On [...]

I got a schedule of Honor Flights yesterday from Glenn Anderson who is running the welcoming committee at BWI airport. His devotion and the devotion of his volunteers is absolutely amazing. This week, there were ten flights coming in and out of BWI almost everyday of the week as Honor Flight organizers deal with charter [...]
